Much like their daughter Kate and Prince William, Michael and Carole Middleton were fortunate to experience a love story that blossomed from a chance meeting.
The couple crossed paths while working at British Airways in Heathrow when Michael held the role of flight dispatcher and Carole was an air stewardess.
As Katie Nicholl reveals in her book, Kate: The Future Queen, Michael had ‘one of the best paid and most important jobs at the airport’, a position that matched the rank of captain.
His responsibilities included coordinating arrivals, departures and managing flight schedules.
For the role, Michael wore a navy uniform and red cap, and was ‘always immaculately turned out’ and ‘considered quite a catch among the coterie of air hostesses’, according to Ms Nicholl.
However, he only had eyes for his co-worker, Carole.
