The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially announced the sighting of the crescent moon, signaling the end of Ramadan and confirming that Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
The declaration was made on Saturday night following verified reports of the moon’s appearance from multiple locations across Nigeria.
In his statement, the Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said: “With the sighting of the moon, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be the 1st of Shawwal 1446 AH, marking the day for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.”
He extended his congratulations to the Muslim faithful for successfully completing the month-long Ramadan fast and encouraged them to uphold the values of patience, piety, and charity beyond the holy month.
The announcement aligns with the traditional Islamic lunar calendar, where Eid is declared upon verified moon sightings. Muslims across Nigeria are expected to gather for special prayers and festivities on Sunday.
