ABUJA — The Nigerian Armed Forces, in collaboration with domestic defense manufacturer Briech UAS, showcased an advanced lineup of indigenous drones, missiles, and bombs at a facility in Kuje on Wednesday. The demonstration marks a strategic shift toward self-reliance in defense technology to combat mounting security challenges.
Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa emphasized the systems’ role as “force multipliers,” enhancing intelligence gathering and precision strikes against insurgents. “Local production eliminates procurement delays and strengthens our response capabilities,” he stated. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang revealed operational deployments in his region, noting: “We erred by allowing non-state actors to acquire near-parity capabilities.”
The initiative reduces Nigeria’s dependence on foreign systems like the US Aerosonde and Chinese Wing Loong II drones. Security analysts hail the development as critical for addressing the nation’s asymmetric threats.
