“I have never scammed or defrauded anyone in my life, and I never will.”

Nigerian medical doctor and author Kelvin Alaneme has announced plans to sue the BBC for defamation following its ‘Africa Eye’ investigation, which accused him of running an immigration scam through his agency, CareerEdu. The report alleged that Alaneme charged $13,000 for fraudulent UK care job visas, linking him to deceptive relocation services. Undercover recordings reportedly captured him discussing payments for job placements, including a £2,000 per vacancy fee plus a commission.
Alaneme has strongly denied the allegations, maintaining his innocence and asserting that CareerEdu does not employ care workers but only connects job seekers with legitimate recruiters. “I have never scammed or defrauded anyone in my life, and I never will,” he stated. He explained that additional charges covered training, transport, and accommodation, with refunds provided for unsuccessful applicants. Accusing the BBC of bias, he said, “If the BBC really wanted to do a ‘real story,’ there are many individuals exploiting people, issuing fake CoS, and outrightly scamming people… We have done none of this.” In response to public calls for legal action, Alaneme confirmed, “We’ll do that.”
