U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Nigerian national, Rotimi Oladimeji, in New Orleans over mail and wire fraud offenses. ICE announced the arrest on Monday in a post on X, describing Mr. Oladimeji as a “criminal alien” from Nigeria. A photo shared by the agency showed him in a grey shirt and headwarmer at the time of his arrest.

Authorities said Mr. Oladimeji had a prior criminal history involving financial crimes. “He was ordered to pay $1.1M+ in restitution before ICE New Orleans arrested him,” the agency stated. His latest arrest follows an investigation that linked him to fraudulent activities often associated with internet scams.

Mr. Oladimeji now faces the possibility of a jail sentence in the United States for his crimes. After serving his term, he may also be deported back to Nigeria. ICE emphasized that the arrest was part of its continued crackdown on foreign nationals involved in fraud and other criminal activities
