1. FG Declares Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr. Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the holidays in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Wednesday.  

2. INEC Confirms Receipt of Details for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Recall Petition

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that petitioners seeking the recall of suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have submitted their contact details. INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this on Wednesday.  

3. House Moves to Strip VP, Governors of Immunity

A bill seeking to remove immunity from prosecution for the Vice President, governors, and their deputies passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. Sponsored by Rep. Solomon Bob, it was among 42 bills considered at plenary.  

4. Bandits Kill Customs Officers, Local in Kebbi  

Suspected bandits from the Lakurawa group killed two Customs officers and a local resident at Bachaka border in Kebbi State on Tuesday. The attack occurred less than 24 hours after security forces neutralized two bandits in the same area.  

5. Four State Creation Bills Pass Second Reading

The House of Representatives advanced four bills proposing new states in Nigeria, alongside 38 others seeking constitutional amendments. The proposals are part of the ongoing review by the 10th National Assembly.  

6. Police Neutralize Five Kidnappers in Delta 

Delta State Police operatives killed five suspected kidnappers and arrested three others during a gun battle. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the incident on Wednesday, noting that the gang leader, Adamu Abubakar (aka Dogo), was among those apprehended.  

7. Rivers Administrator Suspends Political Appointees 

Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has suspended all political officeholders with immediate effect. His Chief of Staff cited presidential authority for the decision in a Wednesday statement.  

8. Citizenship-by-Investment Bill Advances

A constitutional amendment bill introducing citizenship by investment passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. If enacted, it would allow foreign investors to acquire Nigerian citizenship under specified conditions.  

9. Two Sentenced to Death for Murder in Plateau 

A Plateau State High Court sentenced Thomas Danboyi and Pam Lang to death by hanging for the murder of Chung Bot. Chief Judge Justice David Gwong Mann delivered the verdict on Wednesday in Jos.  

10. Delta Police Kill Five Kidnappers in Forest Raid

Five suspected kidnappers were killed in a shootout with Delta State Police at a forest hideout in Ughelli North. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the operation on Wednesday, adding that three suspects, including gang leader Dogo, were arrested.
