On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, when it first became public knowledge that the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had moved against Binance, the value of the Naira was ₦1880 to $1. Please fact-check me.
On that day, unpatriotic Nigerians sided with Binance and insulted the hell out of the NSA. There was a coordinated propaganda by a certain section of the public to the effect that Binance was not the cause of the loss of value of the Naira. On Twitter and Facebook, Binance appeared to have more supporters among a certain political movement, than Nigeria.
The NSA persevered. And eventually, on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Binance announced it was leaving Nigeria. Immediately after that announcement, the Naira stabilised. Then, it began appreciating. And today, Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Naira trades at ₦1065 to $1.
At the beginning of 2024, the Naira was one of the world’s worst-performing currencies. On Friday, April 12, 2024, Goldman Sachs naked the Naira as the world’s best-performing currency, bar none.
Have you apologised to Nuhu Ribadu?
Moral of the story: Elections are over. You do not have to destroy Nigeria by supporting her enemies just because your candidate did not win. Your value as a Nigerian is tied to Nigeria, not your preferred candidate or his region and party. Leave division so you can live the vision!
