NPA workers demand Tinubu’s intervention over 18 years of unpaid wages despite court and government directives.

No fewer than 536 staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have accused the agency of withholding their salaries and entitlements for 18 years, a neglect they said has caused poverty, sickness, and the death of more than 120 colleagues.

At a press briefing in Bauchi on Friday, the workers described their plight as “a grave injustice and untold hardship,” stressing they were neither dismissed nor indicted but denied their wages since 2007. They recalled that on May 22, 2013, a Federal High Court ordered their reinstatement with full payment of arrears, but the NPA ignored the ruling.

They also cited a 2016 National Assembly resolution and a 2017 presidential directive from then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, both of which were disregarded.

“Over 120 of our colleagues have died due to a lack of healthcare and basic needs,” the group lamented. They appealed to President Bola Tinubu to enforce compliance and restore their livelihoods.
