Immediate and decisive action is crucial to halt the protests and restore national unity, ensuring that the grievances of the masses are addressed effectively.

In recent events, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in public outcry, primarily driven by the escalating fuel pump prices and soaring food costs. What initially began as a seemingly peaceful hunger protest has rapidly devolved into chaos, marked by violence, destruction, and looting.
The coordinated “peaceful” hunger protest was organized to address the growing frustration among Nigerians, both at home and abroad, regarding the removal of fuel subsidies. However, as the demonstrations progressed, it became evident that the organizers’ ability to maintain order was severely compromised. This vulnerability ultimately led to the hijacking of the protest by armed hoodlums.
Despite the deployment of police forces to various locations where protests were planned, the situation deteriorated quickly. Reports from Kano, Zaria, and other troubled zones indicate a complete disregard for police orders and a rapid escalation of violence. The demonstrations were marred by wanton destruction of government property, acts of arson, and widespread looting of shops, supermarkets, and offices.
As the violent protests continue to grow in intensity, there is an urgent need for decisive action by the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu. It is imperative that the government acknowledges the root causes of this public outcry – the removal of fuel subsidies and the rising cost of essential goods – and takes tangible steps to address these issues.
As the adage goes, “a hungry man is an angry man.” The Federal Government must recognize that the wellbeing of its citizens is paramount and take swift action to alleviate their suffering. Failure to do so will not only jeopardize national unity but also risk further destabilizing the already volatile situation.
It is crucial that the government does not delay in implementing effective solutions to address the concerns of the masses. The time for decisive action is now, and the people of Nigeria are watching closely to see how their leaders will respond to their cries for help.
