NRC boss Kayode Opeifa says Nigeria could introduce speed trains within five years if private sector funding succeeds.
Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, says Nigeria could see the introduction of speed trains within the next five years.
Speaking at the 2nd International Railway Conference and Expo in Abuja, Opeifa explained that while funding remains the biggest hurdle, private sector players have already shown strong interest.
“It depends on the success of the private sector components, and for us, we have planned that in the next five years, we will be talking about adding the speed rail,” he said.
Opeifa stressed that government’s role will be to create the right environment, while investors secure funding. He added that despite existing financial gaps, the NRC has improved customer service, efficiency, and freight operations since his appointment.
