Peter Obi met former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, fueling speculation about political alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, sparking speculation about political realignments ahead of the 2027 election.
Obi disclosed the meeting in a post on his X handle, describing Jonathan as “my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader.” He wrote: “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan @GEJonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”
Although neither side revealed details of their talks, observers believe the discussions may have touched on the 2027 presidential race.
The speculation comes after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned its presidential ticket to the South, fueling talk about possible contenders including Obi, Jonathan, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Obi, who has already declared his 2027 ambition, has pledged to serve only one term if elected.
