President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern directive targeting heads of departments and supervisors of civil servants who have relocated abroad yet continue to receive salaries without formally resigning. In light of a recent revelation by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Tinubu demanded that these individuals refund the wages they received during their unauthorized absence or face severe sanctions.
Speaking at the 2024 Civil Service Award and Gala Night, Tinubu expressed his dismay over the actions of these so-called “foreign-based ghost workers” and emphasized that supervisors and department heads who enabled such fraudulent behavior would also be held accountable.
