NIA, DSS: Tinubu names Mohammed and Ajayi new intelligence chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has appointed new heads for Nigeria’s intelligence agencies following the resignation of their predecessors.

Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), replacing Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, who resigned over the weekend after serving under two administrations. Mohammed previously served as Nigeria’s envoy to Libya and held various diplomatic positions.

In a statement, presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale also announced that Adeola Ajayi has been appointed as the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ajayi, a career intelligence officer, replaces Yusuf Bichi, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

Ajayi has held several key positions across the country, including as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. His most recent role was Assistant Director-General of the DSS.

President Tinubu has called on the new appointees to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to address Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges. He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service.
