Malaysia-Nigeria bilateral trade is estimated at $956 million, according to Ambassador Aiyub Omar, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Nigeria. Over 3,386 Nigerian students are currently pursuing higher education in Malaysian institutions.
The relationship is based on mutual interests in politics, economics, and society. Nigeria is Malaysia’s 37th trading partner globally, with total bilateral trade in 2023 at USD956 million.
Malaysia has been a recipient of Malaysia’s Technical Cooperation Programme since 1981, providing technical assistance and expertise to 560 government officials from Nigeria. Malaysia is a preferred destination for Nigerian students pursuing tertiary education.
