A review of the public payments portal, Govspend, has shown that the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice under the Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, spent N403million on renovating toilets in one day.
On June 27, 2024, the sum of N158million was paid for the renovation of toilets in the Federal Ministry of Justice headquarters.
On same June 27, the sum of N245 million was paid to optional concepts limited for renovation of toilets.
In all, renovating toilets took N403 million in one day.
The staggering sum of N403 million expended on toilet renovations could have been used to renovate 66 blocks of three classrooms each, at a cost of N6.1 million per block, as evidenced by government records on the GovSpend platform.
Alternatively, this substantial allocation could have facilitated the construction of 51 solar-powered boreholes, considering each borehole requires an investment of N7.8 million.
