PDP quest to Aso Rock at risk

Abuja – There appears to be a setback in the move by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take over Aso Rock in 2023, as presidential aspirants seem to be engulfed in a serious battle of wit.

Some of the aspirants are accusing the party leadership of favouring a certain aspirant because of alleged financial inducement.

The battle and allegations are coming three days to the presidential primary scheduled for this coming Saturday, May 28. Although, there’s a graveyard silence at the party’s national secretariat over this development, some of the aspirants are not relenting.

Specifically, the Sokoto State governor and one of the presidential aspirants of the party, Aminu Tambuwal, said while addressing newsmen through his campaign organisation spokesman, Prince Daniel, that he is the most qualified to fly the PDP flag come 2023.

Consequently, the former governor of Anambra State and PDP presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has resigned from the party and withdrew from the contest.

He cited various developments in the party that will not make him to fully express himself.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Director-General of his Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said that Peter Obi name will surely appear in the ballot, but didn’t disclose the party he’s heading to.

It was, however, gathered that he may be heading to Labour Party, but some flyers were seen where he was pairing with Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential aspirant of New Nigerian People Party (NNPP).

His letter of resignation and withdrawal from the PDP reads, “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA of Anambra, effective Friday 20 May, 2022.

“Consequently, I’m by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP presidential primaries. “It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party.

“Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

 “Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country.

“My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs. “I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership.

I wish you well and best of luck in the service of our country.”
