The plan of some Northern leaders under the Peoples Democratic Party to endorse a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primary today, Saturday has failed.
A meeting was held on Friday night to pick a consensus presidential candidate from the north.
It was gathered that the former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido a supporter of Aminu Tambuwal had called for a consensus candidate.
The leader aims to prevent the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike from emerging as the sole candidate of the party.
Some of those who attended the meeting include Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo, who is Tambuwal’s ally; Aliyu Gusau, former national security adviser; and Ben Obi, Atiku’s associate.
According to sources that spoke with The Cable, Wike has been seen as a threat to the north because of his network and war chest.
