Abuja – There are strong indications that a dark horse may eventually upstage well known political gladiators as the search for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate narrows to the North-East.
This is as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has succumbed to a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for 2023 general election.
Heavily tipped to pair with Tinubu, according to a credible party source, is a chieftain of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Secretary of Buhari Support Group (BSG) in 2015, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda.
A management consultant, Dr. Dauda from Borno State is believed to top the final list of candidates for the vice presidential candidacy and may be unveiled today ahead of tomorrow’s deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Among chieftains of the party that have been touted to grab the VP slot included Prof. Umara Zulum, governor of Borno State; Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, all Muslims.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and his predecessor, Babachir Lawal, have all been named among possible VP choice.
Also mentioned among possible VP candidates included Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State; former governor of Borno State, Kazeem Shettima, among others.
Our source said the matter is now between President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who are expected to issue necessary directive to the party’s National Working Committee.
