Tension as Emir Sanusi’s portrait resurfaces in Kano Govt House

An impending crisis is currently brewing in Kano State following the appearance of the portrait of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on the coronation hall wall of Kano State Government House.

The tension could not be unconnected to earlier speculations about plans by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to sack the Emirs installed by the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and return Sanusi as the sole Emir of Kano.

However, the Kano government and State House of Assembly denied reports about plans to abolish the newly created emirates and sack the first class Emirs.

However,  Nigerians woke up to the picture of the portrait on social media on Monday, thereby causing palpable fears among residents of the state.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, said placing Sanusi’s portrait in the coronation hall was part of its ongoing facelift of the hall.

He added that the portrait of the deposed Emir was returned because the hall was built for his presentation of the staff of office after he was crowned as the Emir.
