Gov. Fintiri posts video of foreign luxury vacation as Adamawa residents battle hunger, insecurity

While the masses continue to suffer economic hardship and insecurity in Adamawa, the Governor of the state, Ahmad Fintiri, jets abroad for a luxury vacation.

Adamawa, one of the poorest states in Nigeria according to the National Bureau of Statistics, is ravaged by insecurity as a result of Boko Haram insurgency that has lasted over a decade in the North-East geopolitical region.

However, unperturbed by the state’s poverty index and security challenge, Mr Fintiri on Saturday posted a video of him dressed in a sky blue shirt and jeans trouser beside a pool from his country of vacation.

For Mr Fintiri, a luxurious vacation from taxpayers’ money while citizens languish in penury is a way to “birth new ideas” and “learn something.”

“Indeed, vacation is the perfect time to rejuvenate the soul and body. It’s a great opportunity to birth new ideas, gain new experiences, acquire different perspectives, learn something new, and have fun. Alhamdulillah!,” Mr Fintiri tweeted on X microblogging app.

Mr Fintiri was also in the news for the wrong reasons recently when he appointed 47 media aides.

The picture of him on vacation has continued to generate reactions from Nigerians, forcing Mr Fintiri to pull down the post.

An X user, @NamexTechnocrat said, “Governor Fintiri ask yourself some questions: why aren’t you vacationing in Adamawa? Why aren’t people from the country you’re in coming to vacation in Adamawa? These are the problems. This is tone deaf and as bad look for leaders. Do better.”

@Sportlight_abby, another X user, said, “amidst widespread hunger & insecurity in his state, Governor Umaru Fintiri shares a video of himself, taking a well-deserved vacation in what looked like abroad.”
