Ahead of Ondo State’s governorship election, three gubernatorial candidates have withdrawn from the race to endorse incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The candidates—Dr. Ajibola Falaye of the Accord Party, Hon. Jenyo Ataunko of the National Rescue Movement, and Olaide Ibrahim of the African Democratic Congress—announced their decision during a solidarity visit to the governor on Thursday.
Dr. Falaye, speaking on behalf of the group, cited Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to public service and his track record of performance as key reasons for their support. He highlighted the governor’s inclusive approach to governance and his dedication to the welfare of Ondo State residents. “We have been watching him, and his doors are always open to all,” Falaye stated, commending the governor for fostering relative peace and prioritizing security in the state.
The candidates also noted that their parties share progressive values and goals with Aiyedatiwa’s administration, particularly in areas of infrastructural development. Falaye emphasized their commitment to continuity, stating, “This Saturday, we will turn our commitment into votes. We will vote for continuity in Ondo State.”
In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the endorsements, describing the candidates’ decision as an act of goodwill and statesmanship. He acknowledged their voluntary support and their readiness to mobilize supporters for the APC in the upcoming election. “I didn’t call for this, but I am grateful that my colleagues in the race have voluntarily identified with my mandate,” the governor remarked.
