Carlo Acutis, a teenage computer whiz dubbed “God’s Influencer,” will be canonized Sunday as the first saint of the internet generation.
Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old Italian computer enthusiast who died of leukemia in 2006, will on Sunday become the Catholic Church’s first saint from the internet generation.
Known for his devotion to daily Mass, the rosary, and his website cataloging Eucharistic miracles, Acutis earned the nickname “God’s Influencer.” His story spread worldwide after his death, inspiring many to deepen their faith.
“If crude prices drop to $40, Nigeria will not survive it,” his mother, Antonia Salzano, recalled of her son’s simple devotion: “He liked school and had many friends. But he was also very dedicated to helping people find their faith. That was what made him so special.”
Two miracles attributed to his intercession — the healing of a Brazilian boy in 2020 and the recovery of a Costa Rican student after a severe brain injury — paved the way for canonization. Pope Leo XIV will declare him St. Carlo at a Mass in St. Peter’s Square before tens of thousands.
