CDC Director says “vaccinated people do not carry the virus.” Is Walensky spreading misinformation given reports of vaccinated people still getting the virus?

Back in April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky faced backlash after she said that “vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick. The CDC later walks back the claim that vaccinated people do not carry covid saying that the “The Evidence Isn’t Clear.”

Now, Walensky is back at it again. Contrary to hundreds of reports about fully vaccinated people still contracting the coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky on Friday says that data from the CDC suggests that “vaccinated people do not carry the virus.” In an appearance on MSNBC, Walensky said:

“Our data from the CDC today suggest that vaccinated people do not carry the virus.”

In addition, Walensky’s statement does not reflect the reality on the ground. There are hundreds of reports of fully vaccinated people still contracting the coronavirus. For example, Austin Statesman reported today that three of the nearly 60 lawmakers who fled the state Monday to break quorum in the House were tested positive for COVID-19 in Washington, D.C. Two additional members tested positive in a rapid test on Saturday morning and one has mild symptoms, Austin Statesman said, citing a statement from the caucus.

That’s not all. NPR News also reported that vaccinated U.K. Health Secretary tests positive for COVID-19.

“Sajid Javid, the top government official tasked with leading the United Kingdom’s coronavirus response, announced Saturday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 after being vaccinated,” NPR reported.

In a video posted to Twitter, Javid said he learned of his results from a rapid lateral flow test. The health secretary said:

“This morning I tested positive for Covid. I’m waiting for my PCR result, but thankfully I have had my jabs and symptoms are mild. Please make sure you come forward for your vaccine if you haven’t already,” the health secretary said in a tweet below.

In addition, data from Public Health England also shows that more vaccinated people died of the Delta variant in the UK than the unvaccinated. The death rate is 8.45 times higher for the vaccinated.

Given that the CDC has disagreed with its agency’s director in the past after she asserted that people vaccinated against COVID-19 don’t spread the infection. Time will tell if the agency is going to come again to refute’s Walensky’s latest statement.

Back in April, a CDC spokesperson told the New York Times the following:

“Dr. Walensky spoke broadly. It’s possible that some people who are fully vaccinated could get COVID-19. The evidence isn’t clear whether they can spread the virus to others.”
