EXCLUSIVE: Forget about experience, I’m expecting to be Yobe Speaker – 34-year-old teacher who defeated Yobe Speaker

Lawan Musa, the 34-year-old volunteer teacher who defeated Ahmed Lawa Mirwa, the Speaker Yobe State House of Assembly, has opened up on how long he intends to serve his people in the state assembly.

Speaking in a chat with Rifnote, the lawmaker-elect, who will represent Nguru state constituency II, said he was certain would serve his people well. Hence, it would be needless to stay in a position after serving two terms when he can serve in higher capacities.

“I can’t be in a position for twenty years when I’m doing very well. I don’t like that. When I spend two terms, I want to move to other positions. It could be the House of Representatives, Senate, or even the Government House.”

He, however, expressed optimism about emerging as the Speaker of the state assembly : “I ‘m expecting to be the Speaker of Yobe House of Assembly, they need my creativity, experience, and originality.Forget about experience .I’m a politician, ” he said.

Lawan, who hails from Majakura village in Nguru LGA, obtained a National Diploma (ND) and a Higher National Diploma from the Atiku Abubakar College for Legal and Islamic Studies, Nguru, and the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, respectively.

Musa contested for the councillorship ticket for Majakura Ward in 2021 on the platform of the APC but lost.

Later on, he was arrested and detained by security personnel three times for criticizing the speaker on Facebook.

After he regained his freedom, Majakura residents asked Musa to challenge the speaker at the polls. He heeded their call and secured PDP’s ticket.

The incumbent Speaker, Mirwa, was first elected into the Yobe State House of Assembly in 2003.
