The PDP is grappling with deepening factionalism as the Rivers State crisis escalates into a broader North-South power struggle.

The political turmoil in Rivers State has exposed a growing North-South rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raising concerns over the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections. While the conflict was initially seen as a clash between Governor Sim Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the involvement of Northern political interests backing the governor has intensified regional divisions within the opposition party.
