In a mind-boggling discovery, scientists have uncovered evidence of “cocaine sharks” off the coast of Brazil. A study published last week in the journal Science of the Total Environment revealed that 13 Brazilian sharpnose sharks (Rhizoprionodon lalandii) caught near Rio de Janeiro tested positive for cocaine in their tissue samples.
This finding adds to the mounting concern about the effects of human drug consumption on marine wildlife and the environment.
