Werner ‘willing to leave Chelsea’ to make way for Haaland

Chelsea forward Timo Werner is open to the idea of leaving Stamford Bridge after just one season, according to reports.

The Germany international joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in July last year for £47.7million.

The Blues beat off competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich to sign the pacy 25-year-old, although his debut campaign didn’t go according to plan.

Werner managed just six Premier League goals in 35 games and went on a barren run between early November and mid February.

He ended the season with a goal against West Ham and assists against Fulham and Man City, after being trusted by Thomas Tuchel, but the exit rumours continue to swirl.

Recent reports have linked him with Real Madrid as former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan.

90Min now claims that Werner is willing to leave Chelsea if they manage to sign a top-class striker like Erling Haaland.

He knows that the club are openly searching for a new talisman, as owner Roman Abramovich has put £150m aside to land the Norwegian sensation.

Due to this, Werner’s agent has ‘touched base’ with Borussia Dortmund to inform them that his player would be open joining.

He could even be used as part of a swap deal, plus cash, for Haaland.

Such a move would see Werner link up with Marco Reus, Giovanni Reyna and Thorgan Hazard in attack at the Westfalenstadion.

He could also partner Donyell Malen, should Dortmund beat Liverpool to the signing of the Dutch international.

Speaking about the situation, a 90Min source said: “Werner is not unhappy at Chelsea, far from it – but he also knows the club are looking at a new striker so if he has to move on, he is prepared to do so.”

Haaland has been involved in a goal every 67 minutes since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January last year.

Chelsea might need to break the world transfer record to take him to London, but it would surely be worth it if he can continue his form in England.

Should Haaland prove to be too expensive then the Blues could target former player Romelu Lukaku.

His goals helped to fire Inter to Serie A glory last season.
