Gerard Pique admits Barcelona dressing room has been ‘broken’ by Lionel Messi leaving and laments that ‘it has hurt us and hurt him too’
Gerard Pique has revealed that Barcelona players are ‘a bit broken’ due to Lionel Messi‘s departure from the club.
The Spanish giants announced last week that Messi would be leaving due to Barca not being able register the Argentine’s new contract with LaLiga, whilst complying with the league’s financial fair play rules.
The three-time Ballon d’or winner had spent his entire professional career at the Nou Camp, and Pique admitted he and his team mates are still struggling with the realisation that he’s no longer a Barca player.
‘The team was a bit broken because of Messi’s departure. Pique said after a 3-0 win over Juventus in the Gamper Trophy.
‘We’ve lost the best player of all time. It has hurt us and it hurt him too.’
‘You aren’t the same side in terms of talent and magic when the best player ever leaves,’
‘You lose an important attacking player, who gives you a lot of goals and assists, but you have to stay competitive.’
‘It isn’t one of the best days. You know that one day it has to happen, but it’s affected the team. Particularly those of us who have been sharing a dressing room with him for years.
