Unlike the January transfer window of 2022, Arsenal and, more specifically, Edu will be very busy trying to sort out two issues that have risen, one more recently than the other.

The Gunners have had a clear transfer strategy this summer, with a mix of signings for the now and future being made in the club’s long-term interests. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, when all fit, will add a new dynamic to Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad. Meanwhile, Marquinhos, in particular, is one for the future and will not be rushed as he learns his trade in the youth set-ups ahead of eventually making a first-team debut in the forthcoming future.

Until a few days ago, a need for a new wide player was the main priority for Edu and Co following Nicolas Pepe’s loan exit. The latest injury needs in regards to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey have given some food for thought with less than 48 hours to go. Now, midfielders left, right and centre are being linked to making a late switch to the Emirates Stadium. Long-term target Youri Tielemans has been available for £25million, but no one has taken a chance on the Belgian to date.

Elsewhere, the likes of Idrissa Gana Gueye, Douglas Luis and a few others on the European continent have been linked, but one name in particular, on the South American scene, looks the most likely to come to any fruition despite reports in Brazil denying such possibilities.

The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel tweeted: ‘Arsenal are working on a deal for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.’

Edu is seemingly looking to pull off another Marquinhos-type trick by signing a player that isn’t someone who many English football fans have much knowledge about. With this in mind, football.london brings you all you need to know about the 21-year-old.
