Manchester United are closing in on the £72million deal with Atalanta that will see Rasmus Hojlund join the club.

Adding a new No 9 has been a priority for Erik ten Hag in recent weeks and the Red Devils look to have got their man after prolonged negotiations. Liverpool meanwhile continue to miss out on one of their targets with Southampton holding firm on their Romeo Lavia valuation.

It could force Jurgen Klopp to look elsewhere as the seasons nears. Bayern Munich continue to pursue Harry Kane and there is growing optimism that a deal can be achieved as talks with Daniel Levy continue over a mammoth sale.

Arsenal and Chelsea meanwhile continue to be achieve as they consider ins and outs to ensure their squads are the appropriate size.

Ferdinand’s Hojlund verdict

Rio Ferdinand claims Rasmus Hojlund is “suited to the Premier League” ahead of his £72million move to Manchester United.

Hojlund, 20, will be announced as a United player imminently after travelling to England to complete a medical.

The Red Devils have agreed a transfer fee with Atalanta, paying £64m up front with the rest coming in add-ons, and personal terms with the striker.

United are taking a huge risk with Hojlund due to his modest goal record.

The Dane scored just nine Serie A goals for Atalanta last season and remains unproven at the highest level.
