Cristiano Ronaldo took advantage of a pre-match smoke show to smash home an opening goal for Al-Nassr – because Edouard Mendy couldn’t see a thing.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was on target after just four minutes as Al-Nassr took on Al-Alhi in the Saudi Pro League with the game kicking off as scene-setting smoke blew across the pitch. The 38-year-old made no apologies after drilling home a left footed shot from Sadio Mane’s through ball as Champions League winner Mendy’s complaints fell on the deaf ears of referee Anderson Daronco on Friday evening.
After the goal was posted on Twitter, one reply said: “That penalty box is looking like The Undertaker’s entrance.” A second added: “Can the keeper even see.”
A third posted: “How’s this even legal. The keeper can’t even see man.” A fourth said: “That’s a bit harsh on the keeper.”
A fifth then pointed out: “Am sure even Ronaldo couldn’t see, both of them guessed.” A sixth concluded: “They should have halted the match.”
Mark William Calaway, better known by his ring name The Undertaker before his retirement, is considered one of the greatest names in WWE history – with his iconic entrance including a coffin and plenty of smoke.
