A former model who alleged in court she was raped by Cristiano Ronaldo is today (Wednesday, October 4) due to appeal a decision that ended her claim against the footballer.

Kathryn Mayorga alleged the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star sexually assaulted her in a Las Vegas hotel penthouse suite 15 years ago. He emphatically denied her claims after the pair were snapped at a nightclub.

In June last year, a Las Vegas court dismissed her federal civil case against the Portuguese star. Judge Jennifer Dorsey accepted the recommendation of a federal magistrate, saying that an attorney for Mayorga engaged in misconduct so severe that it would be impossible for Ronaldo to have a fair trial.

“Because of her attorney’s abuses and flagrant circumvention of the proper litigation process, Mayorga loses her opportunity to pursue this case and attempt to unwind the settlement of claims that, themselves, implicate serious allegations of a highly personal nature,” Dorsey wrote.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning Mayorga cannot refile the complaint. She claimed she was coerced into signing a nondisclosure agreement and $375,000 (£308,000) settlement following the alleged rape, which Ronaldo has maintained was a consensual sexual encounter.

Mayorga had asked the judge to void that agreement. But today (Weds), lawyers trying to revive her bid for damages are set to return to court.

Her legal team is asking the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the dismissal of the case and reopen the civil lawsuit she first filed in 2018.

They are set to argue previous attempts to include as evidence the confidentiality agreement she signed in 2010 after taking money from the footballer was constantly and incorrectly rejected by the judge.
