Canada beats Venezuela in thrilling penalty shootout to reach Copa America semis

Canada advances to the Copa America semi-finals after defeating Venezuela 4-3 in penalties, following a 1-1 draw in Texas.

Ismael Kone scored the decisive penalty kick after Wilker Angel’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.

Canada will face world champions Argentina in the semi-finals on Tuesday, a rematch of the tournament opener which Argentina won 2-0.

Venezuela coach Fernando Batista expressed pride in his team’s performance and vowed to use the disappointment to fuel their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, a tournament they have never qualified for.
