According to Bild, German international Thomas Müller has retired from international football.
After a remarkable career with the German national team, the 34-year-old was only able to feature twice for Germany at their home European Championships.
The Bayern Munich forward was substituted on against Scotland in Germany’s opening game, as well as in extra time against Spain, as Die Nationalmannschaft were eliminated 2-1 in the quarter-final after a gruelling contest. This saw Müller miss out on the chance to claim his first European Championship.
Thomas Müller’s impressive international career
However, despite his lack of game time at Euro 2024, Müller has enjoyed a significantly successful career with the German national team. Having made his debut in March 2010 against Argentina, Müller would announce himself to the global stage just months later at the World Cup in South Africa, becoming the top goalscorer at the 2010 World Cup.
Four years later in Brazil, Müller would help inspire Germany to World Cup glory, overcoming a familiar face in Argentina 1-0 in the showpiece event. After featuring in four World Cups and four European Championships, Müller has been able to record an impressive 131 caps for Germany, with only Lothar Matthäus and Miroslav Klose earning more than the 34-year-old.
