Italian Serie A club Roma is gearing up for a legal showdown with FC Basel over the transfer of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal. The Giallorossi are claiming that a sell-on clause from a previous transfer agreement entitles them to a 40% share of the profits from Calafiori’s sale to the Premier League club.
According to reports, Roma’s legal team has sent a certified email to Basel, demanding recognition of their claim. The dispute stems from a clause inserted in the initial transfer agreement when Calafiori moved from Basel to Bologna in 2022.
The 22-year-old defender, who has impressed with his performances in the Euro 2024 tournament, has been a target for Arsenal as they look to bolster their defensive lineup. However, this legal dispute between Roma and Basel may complicate the Gunners’ pursuit of the talented Italian.
