Caught red-handed! Premier League slaps Man City with massive fine

Manchester City has been fined £2 million by the Premier League for repeatedly breaching kick-off and restart regulations.

The Premier League champions, who secured their fourth consecutive title last season by narrowly defeating Arsenal on the final day, were found guilty of delaying the start or restart of matches 22 times over the past two seasons.

A Premier League statement said: “The Premier League and Manchester City FC have reached a sanction agreement after the club admitted to breaching Premier League Rule L.33 concerning kick-off and restart obligations.” The statement further clarified that “the breaches pertain to various Premier League matches during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.”

A more detailed report revealed that the club acknowledged causing delays to kick-offs or restarts “without good reason” on 22 occasions.
