From City’s sidelines to Villa’s main man? The latest on Grealish’s potential Return!

Jack Grealish might make a return to Aston Villa this summer. Reports suggest that Aston Villa are interested in re-signing Grealish from Manchester City.

Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a club-record fee of £100 million. During his time at City, he has scored 14 goals and provided 18 assists in 125 appearances under Pep Guardiola. Although he had a slow start, Grealish played a significant role in City’s treble-winning season in 2022/2023.

However, the 28-year-old only started ten Premier League games last season and played the full 90 minutes in just one of the final seven league matches. Guardiola often preferred Jeremy Doku on the left wing, limiting Grealish’s playing time. This lack of opportunities at City ultimately cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, sparking speculation about his future at the club and the possibility of a summer departure.

According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are contemplating a move for their former player. The report mentions that Villa are keen to re-sign Grealish on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy him permanently. The Midlands club aims to offer Grealish the chance to be a key player again after his reduced role at Manchester City last season.

Despite Unai Emery signing three new wingers this summer—Lewis Dobbin, Jaden Philogene, and Samuel Iling-Junior—Moussa Diaby has moved to Saudi Arabia after just one season at Villa Park. Grealish’s return would provide the experience that the new signings lack.
