Sergi Roberto: Barcelona bid farewell to long-serving captain

Barcelona have announced the departure of their long-serving captain, Sergi Roberto, after his contract expired at the end of June. The 32-year-old midfielder joined the club’s prestigious La Masia academy at the age of 14 and went on to make his first-team debut in November 2010.

Throughout his time at the Catalan club, Roberto made 373 appearances and scored 19 goals. One of his most memorable moments came when he netted the decisive goal in a thrilling 6-5 victory against Paris St-Germain during a Champions League last-16 tie in 2017.

Roberto’s commitment to the Blaugrana saw him win an impressive array of silverware, including two Champions Leagues, seven La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey successes, and two Club World Cups. Additionally, he earned 11 caps for the Spanish national team, with his last appearance coming in 2021.
