Four individuals have been detained following a knife attack on the father of rising Spanish football star Lamine Yamal in Catalonia, according to local police on Thursday.
The incident occurred at 19:10 GMT on Wednesday in a parking lot in Mataro, a town approximately 30 kilometers from Barcelona, in the Rocafonda neighborhood where Yamal grew up, a spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, Mossos d’Esquadra, reported.
Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, suffered multiple stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment at Can Ruti hospital. While AFP was unable to reach Nasraoui for a statement, a source close to the family confirmed that he is “out of danger” and “remains under observation,” but is in a “stable” condition.
The source declined to provide further details regarding the incident or Nasraoui’s potential discharge from the hospital.
Three suspects were apprehended on Wednesday night and are being held at the Mataro police station for questioning, while a fourth suspect was arrested at 09:00 GMT on Thursday morning.
Police stated that they plan to interview the victim and witnesses as soon as possible to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
According to Spanish newspaper *La Vanguardia*, the altercation reportedly began after an argument in the street with some men who approached Nasraoui while he was walking his dog. The men later returned and assaulted him.
