The Premier League has announced that the long-anticipated hearing into Manchester City will begin on Monday.
Manchester City was accused of having breached the financial fair play rule as they failed to provide the league with a very adequate financial record.
Premier League alleged that the team, which is now led by Pep Guardiola, breached the rule across nine seasons – 2009 and 2018 – more than 100 times during which the league states that one of the breaches was that the club did not make proper remuneration of the amount paid to a certain coach as opposed to what was publicly tendered.
Between 2009 and 2018, Manchester City won three Premier League titles (2012, 2014, and 2018). It is then expected of the club to defend the charge as full proceedings would stretch for two months.
When the charges were leveled last year, the club rejected them and put forward a statement that reads;
“Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
