Edu has been offered the CEO position with Evangelos Marinakis’ group of clubs which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos and Rio Ave. He has also been offered tripled the wages he’s currently on at Arsenal.
It’s essentially a huge promotion which he couldn’t turn down.
It appears Arsenal knew about his potential exit a few weeks ago as the club announced the appointment of James King as director of football operations.
According to Josh Kroenke’s notes, Arsenal will still look to replace Edu and the club have a succession plan already in place.
It’s been said Edu has aspirations of being Arsenal CEO one day, however for now his time at the club has come to an end.
Mikel Arteta was really close with Edu and it’s been reported the Arsenal manager will be hugely involved in appointing the club’s next sporting director.
Change is inevitable. Arsenal’s project isn’t built on one man. The club will remain focused on its strategy to win major trophies.
