Southampton FC has parted ways with manager Russell Martin after a 5-0 defeat to Tottenham left the club nine points from safety in the Premier League.
Despite leading the Saints to promotion last season, Martin’s tenure in the top flight has been challenging, with only one win in 16 league games this season. Southampton has struggled offensively, scoring just 11 goals in the league.
The club expressed gratitude for Martin’s efforts, particularly in securing promotion, but acknowledged the urgency for change.
Simon Rusk, manager of the Under-21s, will take over as interim head coach.
