Morgan Rogers stole the show as Villa repeated last December’s heroics to secure all three points against the Premier League champions on Saturday afternoon.
The ex-City man certainly got one over his former employers as he assisted Jhon Duran’s opener before scoring Villa’s brilliant second goal. Rogers was unstoppable as he so often turned away from midfielders and charged towards City’s crippling defensive line.
Guardiola once had Rogers on the books, so he knows Villa’s prized talent all so well. The Spanish head coach admitted after the game that he’d love to have a player like Rogers available to him now but insisted the timing wasn’t right when the attacking midfielder was at the club.
When asked if he regrets letting Rogers leave, Guardiola said: “Did you know what happened with some players, it was a team that won the treble. Sometimes it’s the right tempo or the right time to give the chance. Of course, everyone knows how good is Morgan.
“In that age, at the moment, we have the players we have that allowed us to create the most successful eight years in football history. In our club, comparing in this 35 or 40 days it’s not good.
