Antony has expressed his delight at finally securing a move away from Manchester United. The Brazilian winger has been given the green light by the Red Devils to travel to Spain after an agreement was reached with Real Betis.
The Spanish club are set to sign Antony on loan until the end of the season, agreeing to pay a significant portion of his wages. It’s also suggested that they could face penalties if they don’t give him enough playing time.
Speaking to reporters at a Spanish airport, Antony shared his excitement about the upcoming move, stating: “I’m so happy, I’m ready.” This move ends Antony’s disappointing stint at Old Trafford following his £85m transfer from Ajax. Despite making 96 appearances since then, he has only managed to score 12 goals.
The 24-year-old has struggled for game time this season, starting just three matches in all competitions. Antony may have to wait until next weekend to make his debut for Betis, as Saturday’s match against Mallorca may be too soon.
Last month, United manager Ruben Amorim pledged to help Antony regain his top form, saying: “He needs more confidence. If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-v-one, so he will improve.
“But he’s working really hard, he’s trying, he’s playing more inside than outside, especially in this game (against Tottenham). You have to do that to work really hard and that will help him to be a better player…
