Arsenal wonderkid Myles Lewis-Skelly set for England debut after catching Thomas Tuchel’s eye

THE MIRROR

Myles Lewis-Skelly is on England ’s radar ahead of a potential senior call-up.

Arsenal teenager Lewis-Skelly, 18, has been in exceptional form and is certain to have caught England boss Thomas Tuchel ’s eye on scouting missions to watch the Gunners. Lewis-Skelly has not even won an under-21s cap and so it would be a big statement to fast track him straight into a senior squad.

But left back is a big issue for England and is an area that Tuchel will be keen to solve ahead of the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers with Albania and Latvia next month. Newcastle ’s Lewis Hall was involved last year and is seen as an England regular of the future after impressing earlier in the season.

Rico Lewis has also played there but has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City while Luke Shaw has just returned to fitness at Manchester United but has been plagued by injuries.

Arsenal will be keen to ensure that Lewis-Skelly is not promoted too fast but, on current form, he will be in Tuchel’s mind.

Former England boss Gareth Southgate always observed the St George’s Park pathway despite promoting young players but Tuchel is on an 18 month contract to win the World Cup and will want his best players involved now.

It will be a dilemma ahead of Tuchel’s first squad next month but he has caught the eye as the best young left back in the country…
