Experienced striker Kennedy Igboananike has quit Swedish club IK Sirius to join IFK Mariehamn in Finland.

IK Sirius announced the departure of the 32-year-old striker.

“We have agreed on a transfer to IFK Mariehamn,” said Sirius sports director Ola Andersson.

“Unfortunately, Kennedy’s time in Sirius did not turn out as Kennedy and we had hoped. It’s sad, but sometimes it happens.

“Despite limited playing time, Kennedy has always been very professional and appreciated in the squad, we wish him luck in IFK Mariehamn.”

Igboananike played only four matches in the Swedish top flight last year.

IFK Mariehamn said the striker has signed a contract for 2021 and hope his experience will come to bear on the team.

“We have been looking for a striker and Kennedy established himself in Swedish,” said club director Peter Mattson.

“He complements our squad with his experience and improves the mix with some of our younger offensive players.

“His last season in Sirius did not turn out what he hoped for and he is eager for revenge to show what he stands for and play more matches, score more goals and assists. If he can to his full potential and be free of injury, he is definitely a striker for the highest level in Finland.”
