Katsina United have ended a five-match winless run with a convincing 2-0 victory over visiting Enugu Rangers in the Match 16 of the Nigeria Professional Football League on Thursday at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium.
The home side started the game brightly and were duly rewarded when Rasheed Ahmed put the host in the driving seat with the opening goal in the 16th minute.
Rangers stunned by the goal threw everything they had in their arsenal but were unable to get past a resolute opponent.
Their hopes of getting at least a point from the game was dashed when in the 83rd minute, Rangers’ Ebuka Anthony hacked down goal scorer, Rasheed Ahmed in the box.
Joseph Atules confidently stepped up to score from the spot, sending Seidu Mutawakilu the wrong way as the game ended 2-0.
At the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa United overpowered Dakkada FC with a comprehensive 3-0 victory to overtake Kwara United at the top of the log.
Offor Ikenna got the first goal in the 7th minute from the penalty spot before Silas Nwankwo doubled the lead two minutes after.
Ikenna killed every hopes of the Uyo based club of staging a comeback when in the 34th minute scored his brace as the game ended 3-0.
Similarly, in Jos, Plateau United dimmed the stars of Ondo based club, Sunshine Stars with a 3-1 victory at the New Jos Stadium.
Oche Ochowechi put his side in the lead in the 7th minute while Ibrahim Mustapha made it 2-nil from the spot in the 24th minute.
Uche Onwuansanya in the 33rd minute made it 3-0 for the ‘defending’ champions.
However, in the 89th minute, Sunshines’ Kehinde Adeyemi scored a consolatory goal as the game ended 3-1.
It will be noted here that Nasarawa Utd, Kwara Utd, Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers are all on 27 points with goal difference separating the teams.
