Rohr: Sierra Leone taught Super Eagles big lesson, AFCON ticket top priority in Benin

Gernot Rohr has admitted that Sierra Leone taught the Super Eagles a hard lesson, while he also maintained qualifying for the AFCON will be top priority for the team in Benin Saturday.

It would be recalled that in November Sierra Leone fought back from four goals down to draw 4-4 with hosts Nigeria in Benin City.

Rohr said the team have learnt from that debacle.

“The lesson from the match against Sierra Leone is that we cannot relax even when we are leading in a match, we have to fight till the end of the match, we have to stay concentrated,” Rohr revealed.

The immediate target for the Eagles is to book their ticket to the AFCON in Cameroon next year with at least a draw in Benin Saturday.

Rohr said he does not expect an easy game in Porto-Novo, but his team will be up to the challenge against a team who last lost at home to Algeria in 2013 in a World Cup qualifier.

“It won’t be easy (vs Benin), but we are confident, we have good players, some of them are doing great at their clubs, so we want the qualification which will be possible with a draw. That’s the first step for us,” he said.

“To win that game will be very, very difficult, but we should not lose the match.”
