It’s another year of heartbreak at the Wimbledon Championships for the Moroccan tennis star, Ons Jabeur, after she suffered her second successive final defeat, this time at the hands of Marketa Vondrousova. Jabeur looked like the clear favorite in the final, with everyone expecting her to lift the trophy on Saturday, but she was far from her best today, ending up well short of the title.
With the final score reading 6-4, 6-4 to the name of Marketa, the scoreboard simply doesn’t do justice to Ons at all. She started the second set really well, winning a couple of games on the trot, but kept on making some silly mistakes, which ultimately cost her the title that she had been hunting for two years. She broke down in her on-court interview but was strong enough to make some promises for the future, saying, “I promise I will come back one day and win the tournament.”

She added, “It’s an amazing tournament for me; I wish I continue till the end. I want to thank my team for always believing in me, and we are gonna make it one day, I promise you.” It’s hard for any player to come as close to the final and lose the opportunity of claiming the golden trophy, but for Ons, who has missed this chance in back-to-back years, it is a heartbreaking sight to see.
