Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, according to recent reports.
Tavares spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Marseille, starting 23 matches in the league and scoring six goals in the process. Despite an impressive campaign, his future doesn’t appear to be in north London after Mikel Arteta opted not to bring him on his side’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Now, Relevo have reported that PSG are keen on the Portugal Under-21 international, potentially making a move to sign him this summer if backup fullback Juan Bernat exits the club. It is claimed that the 23-year-old is seen as an adequate option to provide competition for first-choice left-back Nuno Mendes.
Tavares is worth €30million (£26million), as per CIES Football Observatory, almost £20million more than the £6.8million Arsenal paid for him back in the summer of 2021. The former Benfica youngster made it no secret of his love for the French league during his aforementioned time at Marseille, bemoaning the Gunners’ decision to exclude a buy option in his loan deal.
“I’m good here,” he told The Metro when asked about his life in Ligue 1 last year. “I feel good here and it shows in the matches. On top of that, Marseille feels very similar to Lisbon: the streets, the city, the climate, the sun.
“I’m not thinking about the future. I live in the present moment, day by day. I have no thoughts [about my future], I’m just keeping my feet on the ground…
